> A common goal The partners within Seltrans all share a vision to shape sub-regional transport policy so that every form of public transport can be improved, leading to a reduced dependency on cars and an increased accessibility to jobs. In addition, Seltrans seeks to enable an efficient transport system, essential to the movement of goods and services.
Seltrans has already succeeded in introducing journeys that are easier, safer, more informed and better co-ordinated than before. We have done this chiefly by leveraging resources, combining the experience and skill of our many different partners, and collaborating with other sub-regions to share knowledge and best practice.
> Finding new solution
The predominant mode of transport for most journeys remains the car, which is directly linked to the problem of unreliable public transport. Seltrans believes in the “whole journey approach”. We are committed to actively promoting alternative, sustainable modes of transport that will ease congestion and improve our environment, such as bus, tram, rail, cycling and walking.
To encourage people to get the most out of their transport choices, we are improving access to stops and stations, and working towards greater safety and security on the networks. By simply bringing greater cohesion to transport interchange facilities and allowing easier transfer from one mode to another, we can also deliver greater value to the system as a whole.
> A powerful alliance
As well as the combined leading experience that Seltrans possesses, we also seek to work with other, similar partnerships and TfL in order to influence policy at both London and national levels, in line with many of the key priorities of the Mayor's strategy for transport.
Seltrans represents a single, unified point of contact for all sub-regional transport issues, as well as a valuable resource of knowledge and experience on all related matters. Our partners enjoy access to leading expertise and best practice, and the advantage of a democratic means of bringing change to sub-regional transport. With this assistance, and our links with the transport industry, Seltrans continuously seeks to broaden the scope of its influence and activity.
Seltrans understands that getting people to and from work, delivering goods and services, and encouraging more widespread use of public transport are all crucial factors in improving the environment, the economy, and the quality of life for those who live and work in southeast London.
