Seltrans and Transport for London would like to encourage London’s businesses to take part in a 4 week challenge – where employees can compete internally and with London’s other participating businesses to increase the amount of walking they do over a 4 week period. Individuals will be given a pedometer and asked to record the number of steps they take over that time. This would be used as an estimate as to the amount of steps they tend to take on a daily basis and then set themselves a target to increase that number over the 4 week challenge period. Individuals should increase the number of steps they take on business related journeys, such as to and from work, and or walking to and from meetings etc – whether it is walking all or some of the way.
The following resources are available:
• Pedometers for participating individuals
• Personal log-card, which will accompany the pedometer and for individuals to record the number of steps they take over a 4 week period
• A3 Wall charts, which can go on display within a workplace to show the collective number of steps the organisation / participating teams have taken
• Promotional posters for display within the organisation
• Advisory leaflet explaining the campaign
In addition, to the above there will be a prize for the organisation that records the highest number of steps over the challenge period.
Any businesses interested in taking part, please send details of the number of staff, the required number of wall charts and posters to the above contact details before Friday 11th April 2008.
