Futures Supplies & Support Services Ltd
Seltrans began working with Futures in 2004 to develop a Travel Plan for their site in Purley Way, Croydon. The motivation for the Travel Plan was to link to environmental policies and for corporate social responsibility arguments. Since then, the company has moved to another site within Croydon on Beddington Farm Road. A second version of the Travel Plan was developed in 2006 to reflect the new site. As part of the Travel Plan the company has introduced:
8 covered cycle stands
9 lockers
Pool bikes
An environmentally friendly car for the sales officer and to be used as a pool vehicle
Flexi-time
Since 2004, single occupancy car use has reduced from 45% to 23% and car sharing as risen to 30% of the modal share. Cycling is now at 11% of modal share though bus use has decreased, but this is likely to be a result of staff switching to using bicycles. The Travel Plan has been a great success and in 2005, the company won its first Gold Envibe award, for which a successful travel plan is a requirement. The award has been retained in 2006 and 2007.
The Volunteer Centre
Staff at the Volunteer Centre in Southwark have recently completed their travel surveys and following analysis by a sub-regional coordinator, has decided to invest in home-working facilities. They will receive up to £5000 match funding to help improve IT systems for staff as well as being eligible for the new TfL Enterprise scheme which offers a home-working package including laptop mice, mouse mats and USB memory sticks to make working at home easier.
Haleys Ltd
Since Haleys Ltd, a construction company in Purley contacted Seltrans in early 2007, coordinators worked through the survey and analysis stages of developing a travel plan until results showed that considerable time and money could be saved by the organisation by reducing the amount of business travel from head office to various other sites across London. To assist with this, Haleys Ltd received funding to install video conferencing equipment which now allows staff at each office to talk ‘face to face’ digitally, reducing the financial and environmental impact of travelling.
